Work at Kawaga

Looking for an action-packed summer where you can impact the lives of young boys and men? We are looking for qualified staff for the summer of 2019 – preferably 19 years old or older. In particular, we are interested in those with a sports background (played competitively through high school or beyond), water ski instructors and ski-boat drivers as well as those with particular experience/expertise in outdoor camping, canoeing and coaching. Our staff is made of Senior Counselors (19 and older) and Junior Counselors (ages 17 & 18). We also have Activity Instructors who are hired strictly on the basis of their experience with children and expertise in a certain skill set, including waterski instructors and lifeguards. We have an extensive support staff consisting of two or three registered nurses, a maintenance and cleaning crew, and an outstanding kitchen staff. More than 80% of our staff members have spent several years at Kawaga, first coming to us as campers, completing our CIT program, and finally returning as multi-year staff.

The remainder of our staff is comprised of a combination of international counselors and instructors with specific skillsets. Each summer, more than 90% of our staff returns to Kawaga — an almost unheard of return rate in the camping world. It makes us proud to see the importance that Kawaga has played in our staff members’ lives, and their annual return shows their devotion to this special place. It makes us even prouder to see the success they continue to have in their adult lives.

We have high expectations of our staff and place significant emphasis on hiring adults whom we feel will serve as exemplary role models and adapt nicely into our camp community. We conduct extensive background checks and meticulously vet candidates for all positions to assure that camp employment will be mutually beneficial.
